Say hello to the creators of Flaming Guitar!

Garry Ellis

Blessed Comics is basically just a fancy title for the comics work of Garry Ellis. Sitting at his home in Derby, England, Garry has been a 'serious' comic book collector for the past five years. He grew up on the UK reprints of Batman and Superman in the late 80s/early 90s, citing the Joker on the cover of Superman #9 as the one he remembers most from his childhood.

Having dabbled in different forms of writing over the years, Garry has decided to combine his love of writing and comics to maximum effect. He says that the turning point in this respect was meeting three people at last year's Bristol Comic-Con: Andy Diggle, David Hine and Dan Didio. Since those conversations he has worked to achieve his dream of becoming a successful comic writer. Flaming Guitar began as his simple dream to self-publish a single issue as a showcase for his writing, but has since spawned the Blessed Comics Universe!

"Good ideas seem to take a mind of their own," explains the writer. "I obviously needed a new creator-owned property so that I could self-publish, so I headed down that route. The character name came first, along with a general idea of what the comic would be like, thematically. The look was initially very heavy-metal, then a bit manga (courtesy of concept artist Selvi Altunoz, who did some inital sketches). The first full picture of Flaming Guitar drawn by Susan became the cover of Issue #1."

When he's not reading or writing comics at his home in Derby, Garry can be found playing golf or football, or walking his German shepherd, Sylar. Both Garry and Susan hope that Issue #1 will be completed before they are married next summer. In his spare time Garry is an English teacher.

 Susan Horridge

Susan is Garry's much, much better half and was somehow dragged into the project after telling Garry that she once had a drawing placed in the reception hall of her secondary school. A CV like that is not to be turned down, particularly in relation to Garry's solo attempts while doing a panel layout guide (see Making Issue #1 for some of Garry's 'stunning' art). Susan completed an inital panel in a little over a day (as seen on the homepage of this website) that whet Garry's appetite significantly. Unfortunately, it is still the only panel that she has completed!

When she is 'not in the mood to draw', Susan can be found in various clothes shops or handbag retail establishments, or walking her dalmatian Boomer along with Garry and Sylar. She hopes that Garry can be a successful comic writer to keep her in the hunt for the latest Christian Louboutins.

Susan's favourite comic book character is Martian Manhunter. She wants to be the green one.
